Late in 2000, the spark was lit for
the band that is quickly becoming one of the most entertaining,
hardest working acts in up and coming music today. Sic
Waiting was the pipe dream and brainchild of singer/songwriter
Jared Stinson, who quickly enlisted the talents of his
friends at the newly formed family of Goblin Studios
to complete a lineup ready for action. The band began
by playing shows, shows, and more shows. From strip
clubs to backyard parties to the Hollywood Palace, Sic
Waiting could be found in the same place every weekend-
on the road. A short ep was recorded in the spring of
2001, aptly titled The 4 Song EP, and sold almost as
fast as it was pressed. They quickly developed a loyal
following and at the times when Sic Waiting was in the
most need, it was always the fans that came to the rescue.
Whether the band needed a ride to the show (10 hours
away), a floor to sleep on (for 15), a bus to take the
fans home, or just some inspiration, the fans have stood
by unwavering. To this day it remains true, and these
people are the very reason Sic Waiting marches on.
After a year and a half, 4 self-financed
and booked tours of the west coast, and over 3500 units
of The 4 Song EP moved out of the back of the van, Sic
Waiting decided to take some time off and regroup. Literally.
It was early 2003 and the crash course in the music
industry had taken a toll on everyone. But the spark
never went out and the band came back together in early
2004 with a new lineup, ready again to take on the flailing
music scene. The new lineup saw Brian Franklin on drums
(fresh off Warped Tour with his old band User Friendly),
Darrin DiMichele on bass (making his second appearance
in SW, he was the first drummer), Colin Jans on guitar
and backups (also making his second appearance in SW,
returning after short sabbatical), and Jared Stinson
still on guitar and vocals. The refreshed foursome spent
countless hours honing the new sound and writing songs
deep inside the Goblin facilities. Finally, in late
2004, Sic Waiting made their return to the scene. Playing
local dates sporadically, the band received an overwhelmingly
positive response. Currently the band is finishing up
their new record while continuing to play shows in and
around Southern California, preparing for what looks
to be an eventful year on the horizon. But even without
widespread recognition, without money or success, you
can bet that Sic Waiting will always be there. From
the dark and dirty basement shows to the most prominent
stages of the scene, giving the music back to who it
belongs: YOU (and your mom).
